With Tomorrow in Mind
Children grow so quickly. The clothes they wear in those first years can stay with a family for far longer.
At Santi e Sofia, sustainability begins with the belief that children's clothing should be made with care, intention and respect for the world they will grow up in. We create pieces for the earliest years of life and design them to last well beyond a single season, so each one can carry its beauty and meaning from one child to the next.
Made to be passed down
A more thoughtful way of dressing begins with quality. We choose beautiful fabrics, considered details and careful construction, so each piece holds its shape, softness and charm over time. When clothing is made well, it can be cherished for longer.
We create with purpose. That means timeless silhouettes, lasting quality, and garments that feel as beautiful years from now as they do today. Worn, washed, loved and remembered, they become part of a family's story.
Crafted in Portugal
Every Santi e Sofia collection is crafted in Portugal by skilled makers who understand craftsmanship, comfort and durability.
Both of our manufacturing partners in Portugal are GOTS certified and undergo regular independent audits throughout the year, with production carefully monitored and checked prior to every shipment. These measures help ensure that our garments are made without harmful or toxic chemicals, while also maintaining responsible working conditions and reducing the environmental impact of production wherever possible.
Our knitwear partner
Our family run knitwear manufacturing partner in Portugal brings together generations of craftsmanship, specialist knowledge and a deep respect for quality. With over 25 years of experience, every piece is thoughtfully produced using carefully selected natural or recycled and certified fibres, combining traditional techniques with modern innovation. They are certified to GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), GRS (Global Recycled Standard), RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) and OCS (Organic Content Standard), reflecting their continued commitment to more ethical and environmentally responsible manufacturing. Their mission is ours too: that beautiful craftsmanship goes hand in hand with traceability, sustainability and care for both people and the planet.
Our childrenswear partner
Our core range childrenswear manufacturing partner in Portugal brings over 35 years of specialist experience in producing beautifully made garments for babies and children. Combining skilled craftsmanship with modern, computerised production facilities, they work across a wide variety of fabrics and products, with a strong focus on quality, innovation and responsible manufacturing. Sustainability is considered throughout their production, from the use of responsibly sourced materials and renewable energy to reducing textile waste and supporting a circular approach to production. Their credentials include GOTS certification and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Product Class I, specifically covering products suitable for babies and the most sensitive skin, alongside ISO and REACH compliance, and they are also a proud member of Sedex, supporting ethical working practices and greater transparency throughout the supply chain.
The materials we choose
Every fabric and yarn is chosen for how it feels against new skin and how well it lasts.
Organic cotton, GOTS certified
GOTS certified cotton begins with organically grown cotton, cultivated without the use of genetically modified seeds and according to strict environmental requirements. The Global Organic Textile Standard also covers the processing of the fibre through the textile supply chain, including controls relating to chemicals, environmental practices and recognised social criteria. Naturally soft, breathable and absorbent, organic cotton is particularly well suited to babywear, where comfort and gentle materials are especially important. Choosing GOTS certified cotton also provides greater transparency and reassurance about how the fabric has been produced.
OEKO-TEX certified cotton
Cotton is a naturally soft, breathable fibre that has been used for generations in baby clothing because of its comfort against delicate skin. When certified to OEKO-TEX standards, the finished textile has been tested for a wide range of substances that may be harmful to human health. This makes it particularly reassuring for garments worn close to a baby's skin. Soft, absorbent and breathable, OEKO-TEX certified cotton helps keep little ones comfortable while offering the durability needed for everyday wear and frequent washing.
OEKO-TEX certified linen
Linen is a natural fibre made from the flax plant and has been valued for centuries for its strength, breathability and beautiful texture. European regions in particular have a long tradition of flax cultivation and linen production. Naturally breathable and moisture absorbing, linen allows air to circulate around the body, making it particularly comfortable during warmer months. OEKO-TEX certified linen provides the additional reassurance that the textile has been tested for harmful substances. Its durability also means linen becomes increasingly soft with wear and washing, making it a beautiful and practical choice for baby and childrenswear.
Cashmere
Cashmere is one of the world's most treasured natural fibres, obtained from the exceptionally soft undercoat of cashmere goats, traditionally raised in the cold climates of regions including Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. The fine fibres provide remarkable warmth while remaining beautifully lightweight and soft to the touch. This combination makes cashmere especially luxurious for babies, helping to provide warmth without the heaviness of bulkier fibres. When blended with cotton or other fine natural fibres, it can add an incredibly soft hand feel, warmth and refined finish to baby knitwear. Our knits blend 90% organic cotton with 10% cashmere, using premium yarns sourced in Italy.
For us, sustainability reaches beyond materials. It is about slowing down. It is about valuing what we own, caring for what we love, and creating pieces that can become part of a family's story.
